Hurricane Katrina & Transport Delays

We have recently received phone calls from people who live in areas hit by the devastating Hurricane Katrina. They were shipping cars from Louisiana or Mississippi and now there vehicles have not been picked up. Their question has been that the auto shipper they booked with has not picked up their car, so do we have anyone that can? The answer is no. If this were a case (which happens often) that there were no extenuating circumstance and the transport company they choose was late, or not being completely honest about the exact pick up of their automobile we could help.

Unfotunately that is not the case. Hurricane Katrina has left massive damage to roads leading into those states and no trucks will be going in for quite a few weeks or possibly even more. Please be patient. When roads reopen you may be better if possible to drive the car to a nearby accessible area. These road closures will also delay auto transport to and from other states as well as carriers will need to seek alternate routes in the southern portions of the United States. Those of you who have been inconvenienced, remember the losses including property and life of those suffered from Hurricane Katrina and your delay will soon seem insignificant. Soaring Gas Prices & Auto Shipping

While gas prices continue to rise it effects a lot more than just your wallet at the pump. If you are in the need of car shipping this summer or perhaps fall be prepared to pay more. However depending on what kind of car you need shipped - it still may be cheaper than driving yourself, and that's for sure. Large car carrier take several cars (9-11 typically) who in turn split the expenses.

Depending on your transport distance the average price of auto transport has increased from $100 to $200 to offset the cost of diesel fuel. If your dealing with a dependable auto transporter otherwise be weary if the cost sound to good to be true!

Don't forget there are other things that effect the cost of your car shipping as well. Some examples range from the distance of your auto transport to size of the vehicle being shipped and more.

Timing Your Auto Shipping Right

Timing is everything and that goes for auto shipping as well. To get the smoothest auto transport possible time your auto transport right. What's right? Well that depends on your situation and needs.
If you need your car to arrive at its destination at a very specific date, book your transport early. How early you ask? 4-6 weeks in advance would be optimal. Remember as indicated in a past post you can always book your auto shipping on less notice and get express auto transport or a guaranteed delivery time, but it will cost you more.
If you will not be in a rush to get your automobile than 2-3 weeks would be sufficient time to book your transport. Also consider the time of your car shipping. If its a busy time like the end of summer/beginning of fall or after the holidays give your self a bit more time as auto shippers will be a bit busier.
