Understanding the auto transport process

Most people who are shipping their car are doing are first timers. This means they usually have know idea what to expect or exactly how the auto transport process works.
We have written many posts previously to help you understand the transportation process as well as helpful money saving tips shipping your car.

We have broken how auto transport works in a nutshell. Keep in mind some transport brokers and carriers do have different payment requirements.

1. Choosing which company: After you have gotten a few quotes, many experts recommend comparing at east 3, select a transporter. Make sure al information is correct such as vehicle year, make and model as well as pick up location and destination. Its also very important to let the shipper know if the car is in running condition or not. This will save you hidden charges.

2. Once you have selected the company in most cases a broker will now find an auto carrier for your cars pick up location and based close to the date you would like it picked up. Its important to note you may have not paid any deposit up until this point. If not its most likely at this time the transport broker will require a deposit.

3. Your vehicle will be picked by the carrier on time if all goes well, weather, breakdowns or traffic could trigger delays.

4. The carrier will deliver your vehicle. Many times the remaining balance will be due in full unless other arrangements have been made or you have agreed to pay in full already or you have your car being shipped to a terminal in which you would not be required to be there. Its good idea to inspect your vehicle for any damages at delivery.

Getting your car delivered when you need it!

We take thousands of calls, especially at this time of year in the likes of snowbirds and seasonal workers who need their car tranported to your winter destination. Many of them are not sure when they want it picked up but know when they need their car delivered by the shipper. Since not all have shipped cars before they are unrealistic on the pick up dates and delivery time needed by the auto carriers. To help ensure a smoother transport and getting your car in time here are some practical tips:

1. Realize it takes longer than you think - due to inclement weather usually occuring at this time of year. Another reason is hours of service regulations governed by the FMCSA.

2. Its better to arrive early than late in most cases. You can arrange to drop your auto off at a terminal drop off if needed.

3. If your automobile absolutely needs to be there in time get an guranteed delivery and pick up date. It may cost you more but its well worth it and saving much aggravation.

Have a great auto transport!
